You will be brought right up to date to meet industry standards, regulations and expectations and, most importantly, to help you and your colleagues be safe and healthy in the workplace.

Qualification overview

 

This qualification forms part of the QA Health and Safety suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on:

  • National Occupational Standards (NOS) related to health and safety in the workplace
  • Recommendations of good practice outlined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

The L2 Health and Safety course develops learners’ health and safety awareness in the workplace. It covers understanding risk assessment, identifying and controlling the risks from common workplace hazards, the legal requirements related to health and safety in the workplace and what to do in response to accidents and incidents at work.

This qualification specification provides information for centres about the delivery of the QA Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF) and includes the unit information, assessment methods and quality assurance arrangements.

Objective

 

The L2 Health and Safety course will help learners develop their health and safety awareness, build an understanding of health and safety in the workplace and the role that all members of staff play in maintaining a safe working environment.

Purpose

 

After taking the L2 Health and Safety course, you will have a raised awareness of health and safety issues in preparation for employment.

Intended audience

 

This qualification is for you if you want to improve your awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace.

This qualification contains 1 mandatory unit with a total value of 1 credit.

Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals, is 4 weeks.

Each credit is equivalent to 10 hours’ learning time. Learning time consists of guided learning hours (GLH) and self-directed study. GLH are a measure of the contact time a typical learner will require in direct trainer guidance to complete their programme of learning successfully, which for this qualification should be a minimum of 6 hours (excluding breaks) and a maximum of 10 hours.
Learners will be encouraged to do self-directed study, which is a measure of the time a typical learner will require away from the programme of learning such as reading course material/handouts and researching information on the internet.
